What different features do you guys have in the works? Are we talking a proper release section?
-
I think we were probably waiting to collaborate that with whoever would be willing to design it. This would be a good thread to throw ideas out, though.
I personally would like to see something very similar to the original frontpage.
-
For me, this site has always been about the forums so I personally don't give a shit if the frontpage was never developed.

+1

What was on the original frontpage? It's been so long I forget. I do want the first looks to be brought back.
-
Releases broken down by section with NFO links, RSS/News Feeds, Firstlooks, and a link to popular forum threads is what used to be on the old page mostly.
I'd be happy if we could get back to that state.

As an interim solution, the front page can be a screenshot of that old front page. When somebody clicks the screen, it brings them to the forum front page. 99.9% of the people would click "Forums" anyway, so they wouldn't even know it's a screenshot.
-
Who would keep the page updated? For me it's irrlevant, as I have this link (http://www.theisonews.com/forums/index.php?action=unread) bookmarked.

Nah come on man, we need some fucking standards.
I'm working on a simple design with the features posted in this thread. Almost done.

Looking forward to seeing what you have in store Relux :) Thanks for taking the time and putting some work in :)

Yeah, about that. I've been busy with other stuff but i'll clean it up and post a pic so you guys can say if it's something worth going for. It's different, thats for sure.

Looks amazing man.
What needs to be done to implement something like this?
PM me and we'll talk.
-
Looks great, it realy does.
-
Thanks for the props by putting my photoshop in relux! You rock!
-
It's just a concept. Need someone with coding skills to actually translate all those little icons and shit into a website using the assets provided.
I'll change the logo for the current one.
-
i actually like that logo, well at least the real looking disc, everything else is dope too, good job

Any updates for this?

Any updates for this?
Nobody with the skillset we need has come forward to date.
We passed around the idea of hiring a developer, but the site being pretty quiet right now, it's hard to justify the expense without more traffic.
Spending that money on a redesign/new code doesn't necessarily guarantee us more users who would actually utilize the features...
The good news is we renewed the hosting agreement, so the site is definitely here for the foreseeable future.
-
Something like this? I know it's extremely basic for now. I just whipped it up tonight. I'm not a graphic designer or anything but I'll try to spruce it up with some icons or something. But I wanted to keep it minimal like this site has always been. As far as a firstlook database that doesn't seem too complicated. I'll try to keep it as simple as I can, probably a SQLite db.

That works for me man. We need to find a way to then present it through the site, be it a widget or plugin for SMF.
The issue is that nobody on staff is much of a developer. Penguin is our infrastructure guy and he's amazing at it, but he's not a webdev.
Any help the community can bring forward, we will use it for sure to make the site better!
