Title: Chankast
Post by: on June 16, 2004, 11:35:23 PM
Supposedly the best DC emulator out right now

http://www.chanka.org

.............cept i cant get it to work

trying to play Marvel VS Capcom 2 gets me a iocontrol error msg.

*** i have a cdi image which i need to add the autoboot feature to. anyone have any idea how to do this? because i dont think i did it properly.

i mounted the image, copied all the files there into a folder, and used a selfboot program on it. i think i messed up somewhere along the way because the size of the folder (where i copied files from the cd) is a different size from the total size of the cd. can any experts here help out?

Yeah, Chanka is the best DC emulator nowadays. But please remember that it's only alpha - for better emulation we'll have to wait some more. I have tested chanka (alpha 0.02a) with 3 games so far:
- Ikaruga - perfect emulation, no comment,
- Heavy Metal Geomatrix - nice but sound crashes sometimes,
- and RE:CV for which i was waiting very long time to play -
and of course it doesn't work (yeah i'm lucky :)). It's because this game isn't self-bootable :/. I have tried to make it self-bootable but i have fuck** up sth because when i burned image it says that game takes only 16kb of cd. Anyway I tried different method and it gave me *cdi image but when i try to play it, emulator gives me the same information as it gave you nohooiam about iocontrol error.
I also want to know if any of you tried to play non-selfbootable games with self boot cd (like utopia) and does it work ??
Thank you guys for chankast but I'll buy dreamcast anyway:P

Sorry for my english but i haven't got time to work on it :P

Tried Utopia Boot CD 1.2 right now.
It seems it tries to load the games forever.
Until the CD swap, it works like on real DC, then the game CD spins forever without starting any game.

To selfboot games, use bin2boot or help yourself with Echelon Selfboot Tutorial. You find them with Google.

Thanks weezeex. I have just tested this utopia boot cd and like you said it doesn't really work - game doesn't load :/, but I heard that emulator has a bug in it - sth to do with utopia boot cd - that's why non-selfboot games doesn't work.
Hope to see this fixed in next release :). I have tried bin2boot several times but it always results in 16kbs burned on cd - but for re:cv i'll try some more :P. Thanks anyway.

anyone get it to work with mounted images (daemon tools)?

It works with mounted images for sure - I have tested Ikaruga (cdi format), Ufc (mdf format) - both self-boot.
I have used Alcohol 120%, but deamon tools should work with images without any problems, too.

SSE - try to enable it with such programs as "wcpuid" - it should work fine.

My athlon is a XP2200, I heard XP athlons have SSE, yet it says not supported in wincpuid ...

wierd

can I emulate it or something... anyone?

Me.Out. ---> If you have AthlonXP you should be able to enable SSE with Wincpuid (try oldest versions - http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002374/src/download.html).
Then choose Tweaks > AMD Athlon MP/4 SSE Control > SSE Enable to enable SSE. If anything will fail search your bios
- maybe you'll have to enable it there (do it at your own risk). Hope this'll help.

Yeah, just came here to post about this... I wasn't aware of the emulator until today. I scrambled to find my EMS PS2>PC adapter, set it up, and try a couple of games. I have a DC (collecting dust now) so I have a library of games to test. Tried Jet Grind Radio... works, but cinematic sequences are choppy and VMU saves don't work. I get about 30fps on my Athlon 3000+. Very promising work though! It could be perfect with continued work.
