Old release troubles: Rollcage Stage ][
« on: April 25, 2001, 04:58:26 AM »
I'm trying to get an old rip to work, the game is Rollcage Stage 2. It basically goes to a black screen on startup, you hit a button a couple times (to skip the .BIKs that were badly ripped) and then, instead of going to the game menu, it drops back to windows. I've tweaked the Hell out of it with no luck.

Anyone remember this one, and have the same problem? Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Basically, it shipped with a really friggin' bugging D3D, and the later patches fixed these problems. So go search for them.

Actually, I found that out. But the trouble is now in patching the rip's cracked EXE to the official one. It doesn't work. Any idea where I could find the original exes to patch, or a cracked version of the patch?

Search my friend. First off, DON'T use OFFICIAL patches, you have to find the cracked version! 98% of the time using official patches puts back the cd protection! Where to get them, not something I tell, that's the job of you to search for (even if allowed by site rules, I still wouldn't tell you)

gimpy: the problem with using official patches is not that the copy protection is re-instated, it is easy to get cracks. The problem is that they won't work at all because of missing reg entries or because they scan executables (as in this case).

It's been quite a while since I've played this one, but if I am remembering correctly, in order to start up the rip of rollcage stage 2 you need to either hold down or tap the escape key. Don't see why it does not start. Still does on my system dx8.

Well, I've tried pressing espace to get past the non-existant intro movie, but then, when the game WOULD start, it just drops back to the desktop. I was looking at the company site's forum, and they seem to say that it's related to either directx 8, Nvidia cards, or both, and that I need the newest patch.
