The end of Isonews...
« on: February 08, 2016, 02:17:41 PM »
Hey everyone (like all 5 of you that are left),

We (the staff) have discussed it, and we're thinking of winding this thing down in June when the next hosting bill comes due. We just renewed this week, but after that we really don't see ourselves carrying it forward.

One of three things can happen here that we see:
1) We kill the forum and just replace the domain with a placeholder screen. This is low cost and we're okay with doing this as a monument long term.
2) We could leave the forum up in read only. We would scale down to a less expensive host and you can trawl this archive of stupidity. The time we would keep this up is variable.
3) Someone on here takes the site off our hands and does what they see fit with it. We would want validation that you actually intend to do something kind of useful with it, either run it as is, revamp it, whatever. You would need to assume hosting costs on your own (our current VPS is kind of expensive for what we're doing), Domain transfer costs, etc.

I'll let Pengy or Shwaggy chime in on anything I may have missed.

Yes, no reason for you guys to keep paying for it. I say do whatever you think is best considering the expenses.

It's been a great run ...

I would also like to know this as well - I am not sure we should allow this forum to ever end.

It should be passed down - generation to generation - as a testament to man's folly.
"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."

Just signed back in after 10 years...sad to see this place go.

Life has changed and coming back here brought back some good memories.
Shwaggy: copeland is like the next nostradamus
Fro: that requires talking a lot and prophesizing, I don\'t think being an idiot and typing a lot counts

Wait, you haven't visited once in a decade, and yet you're wondering why they want to kill it off?
Duh. YOU killed it genius. YOU and others just like YOU.
Good job, buck-o.

For sure I would like the classic threads section to stay alive.
I still have a good laugh reading through some of the stuff in there.
It would be great to have the option to export some threads in a fancy format to retrieve the text.
