Video Game Soundtracks
« on: December 23, 2014, 12:21:27 AM »
So, I caught myself listening to the soundtrack of The Curse of Monkey Island (Monkey Island 3). Probably my favourite Monkey Island game, and with a fantastic soundtrack to boot. I've always loved game music, and this got me inspired to ask my fellow forum-members if there are any other particular soundtracks that really stick out to you that you'd like to share with us.

I'll kick it off with sharing what I'm currently listening to, some sweet Caribbean tunes by Michael Land who worked as a composer for LucasArts. Two hours worth, (full tracklist can be found in "Show More") including the number one pirate hit, "A Pirate I was Meant to Be", starting at 1:10:03.

Thought I'd add another neat detail about this soundtrack... The tracks named Edward Van Helgen, Cutthroat Bill and Haggis McMutton (the names of the barber shop pirates who all have an unique soundtrack inside the barbershop, track 19, 20 and 21) starting at 28:12, work together like a charm. You can put them next to each other in Audacity or whatever and get a sweet-ass track as a result that just works together (just like the barbers themselves).

On topic - Hotline: Miami. Great soundtrack.

Off topic - monkey 3 was your favourite in the series?! over 1 or 2?!

Monkey Island 3 was also my favourite because it was the first one I played and at that point I couldn't get over the age of its predecessors, but when the remakes came, they were just as sweet.
they say I'm ruined what the fuck do they know

Yup, it's a bit of an unpopular opinion, but it was the first one that I bought and played properly. The graphic style of the game really worked with me, and the humor was really funny in it. I still love 1 and 2 of course, but 3 just sticks out a bit more for me.

Gonna throw in a few more here while posting... Another LucasArts game, Sam and Max Hit the Road... Good shit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuUSfascHdc

Also, here's a link to the Hotline Miami tunes that mef mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKD-MVfC9Ag
Nice 80's feel to these chiptunes.

If you want more chiptunes, the Fez soundtrack is pretty damn nice to listen to... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYL-5N08JtA

Same goes for FTL. A bit more atmospheric, but with a very nice flow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWlHjpKmvh8

probably i'd have chosen chrono trigger instead if only it hadn't been born still in the midi era.
