They said free for 8 users a while ago, but the inclusion of 7 users is new.  Which is a bit of a cunt because I just installed 8 fresh on a new gaming pc with this in mind.  Had I known, I woulda skipped the 8.1 shit fest

Windows 10 will be a free upgrade to Windows 7/8/8.1 for a period of 1 year. After 1 year, you will have to pay for upgrade. How much is uncertain.

Microsoft calls windows 10 for a service, and by giving Windows 10 away for free for a period of 1 year, they hope that more than 20% will use Windows 10. Only 20% are using windows 8/8.1. Over 60% are using windows 7 and less than 20 procent are still using windows XP.

I have been using windows 10 tecnical preview for a month, and I don't see major changes from Windows 8.1. It's like 1 step forward and 2 step backward. Microsoft needs to make an OS like Windows 7 with enhancements and up to date technology. Windows 8 was a failure....like Vista and ME. Windows 7 is like 6 years old, and have 1 servicepack. That's just amazing. Windows 8 is 2 year old, and until today got 2 major servicepacks. It says a lot.

Just an FYI - M$ already trademarked "Windows 365" so no wonder they'll be giving 10 away for free for a year. Next up, subscription.

Nothing wrong with Windows 8. It's just getting a little used to the different start menu organization, the rest of the OS is much better designed and optimized. If it can run on shitty hardware so well that already says a lot. Try before judging

If you read what I posted, you would know that I have played around with windows 10 TP for more than a month. So I did try (and still do). I didn't say anything is wrong with 8.1.1. but Windows 8 was a big failure. That's why over 60% still using windows 7. Windows 7 was a success the first day it was released. And still is.

That's because there were hordes of people trying to escape the nightmare that was Vista. It was like coming in from a really wet, cold and windy day and sitting in the most comfortable armchair in front of a fire, you don't want to move. Windows 8 was like swapping the fire for central heating, very efficient  just slightly less comfortable initially.

And this has to go down as one of my stranger analogies.

W10 is already shaping up to be farr better than that abomination W8/8.1 as is looking even better than W7 was to Vista. DX12 alone is a huge revolution in graphics engine compared to that joke DX10/11. Been playing with W10 and its utterly fantastic and should do the enterprise market very well (which is my business for the next many years). Loving the super-fast kernel in W10 (like W8/8.1) but MS finally listened more or less in ensuring W10 will supersede all before it.
Removed specs due to them being classed as L.T.B bait (Low Tech Bastard)

Windows 8/8.1 may run nice but you would never know it since the stupid thing aggravates on a constant basis, it feels cheap, makes you hunt constantly for things and looks like some android 2.4 tablet.

I had to buy a laptop with it and learn it, but I don't need to learn something that stupid.

Windows 7 will outlast it for sure, nice too hear that Win 10 will be far superior to this irritating less user friendly OS since 98.

The thing that bugs me most about 8 is the search.  I am used to clicking in the start menu to search.  With 8 they spat on your muscle memory and made you go the other way to the right hand edge of the screen.  It takes me ages to relearn that kinda stuff, just like in 7 when they removed the 'minimise to desktop' from the quick launch bar next to the start button and moved it to that thin strip on the right.  I'm now used to it through repetition.  I just cannot get used to hovering the mouse over the right hand edge to pull up the charms bar.

A laptop at work has Windows 8 on it which I was using today, and you know the OS is well design when you have to fucking google how to close an application.

Easy, press the windows button. Type away!
