sup fuckheads i'm about to steal some bike so i can afford a new computer...parts.
what do you recommend?

currently i have a Q8200 @2.93GHZ
4gb DDR2 @ like a little over 800mhz running 1:1
and a radeon HD 4850

i'm gonna start with a new video card since my processor mobo and ram still have a little life in em. actually once i build my new one i'm just gonna re-assemble the old one in a new case. i like my antec SOHO tower, had it since my first ...ok since i bought it from my friend back in like 2003.  as long as they still make ATX mobo's i think i'll keep it.

i was thinking of getting an R9-270x but... i looked at the power requirements and i'm not willing to upgrade from my earth watts 500 for a video card. but i want a video card that's better than my current one, so i was thinking R7-260x since it has lower power requirements and it might actually fit my case.

so i looked at the reviews and it seems that the 260x is slightly faster than it's predecessor the 7790, and the 270x is slightly faster than the 7870 it replaces.  but then i see that the 7850 is almost in the same league after some overclocking and it's only like $150 now most places and as little as $120 after rebates and comes with free games i'm totally never gonna bother to download , install, or play.

so what do you suggest? i'm heavily leaning towards the 7850 and in the future i will get a new proc, mobo and ram.

for the cpu i'm interested in the FX-6300 and an AM3+ board. it overclocks to the motherfucking moon, it's cheap as fuck, has 6 cores and should handle everything in conjunction with my 7850 and my native resolution of 1360x768.

also i forgot, i need help finding a good 900 series motherboard. i don't need SLI, all i see on newegg are 990x boards with SLI, and fucking 970 boards which suck balls, i saw one had fucking PCI slots and got PS2 ports.... FUCKING PS2. who the fuck even has one of those anymore?

Your current CPU will seriously bottleneck the GPU. You will get more bang for the buck is getting used parts. i5 2500 or i72600 (still fastest CPU for gaming with some OC) and GPU wise either get what you are thinking or get a used 580 or 680. I wouldn't touch an AMD cpu but if you decide to buy one, get as many cores as you can.

Get whatever they'll throw at you at the swap meet, knowing your folks it will probably be something cheap and stolen. You can't go wrong with this.

Oh and Fonias, seriously? Dude's heading for bargain bin build and you throw i7+gtx 680 at him?

A complete used system with i5 and gtx680 can be had for around 600-800$. Maybe I didn't quite get the level of the budget. If you are considering a new system, the Fx-6300 is very good value. AS far as the GPU is concerned, if you are looking at 7850, you can get a 660ti that is better and cheaper.

Dunno where you get your prices but 7850 costs nearly half of what they ask for 660ti. $150 for one, $250 for the second.

thanks for the replies.
yeah the gpu is gonna outstrip the processor a little depending on the game, but this is a stepping stone. i will replace video for the near term so i can get more frames per seconds from my bf3 which is  about the only game i ever play when i play games on my pc...last time was like 3-4 months ago.

after i find a motherboard i will upgrade the rest of the components and take my old components and rebuild my current computer so i have 2. i saw the benchies for the inter processors and as always i know they are the fasters in terms of raw power, have been since the e-series and c2d. but the amd chips are cheaper, have more cores, and overclock way more. that to me is more important than throwing raw power at games i can run with no problem on my processor from 2 builds ago. i was thinking...sure i can get an i5 with 2 cores...but for that price i can prolly buy 2x amd procs with 6 cores.  hmmm 2 cores or 12....decisions decisions.

it's not about being poor which i still am, it's about value. amd is a better value. intel only prices their shit that high because it's a better known name and they know people will pay that much for 2 cores in a 8 core age. why the fuck are we still on 2 cores anyway? we should be up to like 16/32 core processors running 2ghz+ on each core.

If you want to upgrade GPU only (which is reasonable as long as you have that quad) and worry about TDP then forget about AMD. If you don't have enough cash for R9-270x then pick regular 660. It will outperform R9-260x and it will only cost you about $20 more.

I'm running i5 3470 with 660 from MSI and using 550W PSU from XFX.

If you're talking about cores there's still the case of utilizing them. So far only Watch Dogs is claiming 8 core support. Anyway, think there's no such thing as dual core i5, that's i3 you're talking about (unless possibly some marketing bs for laptop, which often happens). But yeah, budget builds are often based on AMD components. Just remember that even though the AMD claims the "we got 8 cores" card, they also have 125W TDP on those cpus.

Throw a 60 dollar all-in-one water cooling system in with your amd and you can overclock like mad.  I have a 1100t, 3.3 ghz that's 125w tdp.  Ran between 40-55c on air stock cooling.  Picked up a thermaltake extreme all in one liquid cooler.  Now i'm running 3.8ghz and never going over 40c full load (prime95).  normally 20-30c using normal programs.  I could do 4.0ghz but it puts me back up to 50c's with full load.

It's a non conductive liquid apparently..  IT comes all sealed so you never have to mess with it but in case it does leak, it won't harm anything.  Just be messy.

Be aware that there's H60 and H60i which is a newer model ('tweaked to improve cooling performance). If you'll buy one make sure to mount it properly, apply proper amount of thermal compound (if there isn't any) and check the temperatures in idle/stress. Sure it's suppose to be mount and go, but quite often people fuck up at some point and due to this they have higher temps. Get some online review for comparison of temps.

Refurbs are units returned for some reason to the manufacturer. I wouldn't bother with older version of H60 if it was a refurb. It's already outdated design.

Anyway this is the shit you want:

i see they have  the new models on newegg,   but  i read a bunch  of reviews. these refurbs are just t he old version  new in a box  minus a warranty. idgaf about a warranty on a  $35 heatsink  unless something is missing. unless i get some compelling new info i'll just go  with the old version and if  needed throw an aftermarket fan on it.
