Begins was the typical first comic movie in that it had to show back story, and growth of the character
TDK was simply "Hey I'm batman, let me do some batty things"
TDKR was more of the same but also tying in a conclusion to the movie, so similar to the first one except the tail end needs to be wrapped up which often is where many writers drop the ball "wrote this totally awesome thing... now I don't know how to finish it... fuck it FADE TO BLACK! Yeah that's awesome"
Personally I liked TDKR, I thought the movie was more than fine, a little divergent sure... but good enough. TDK was a little too artsy for me, too much of that high pitched music to drag along suspense, not really my sort of thing.
