hehe the 1500 dollar reward gives one of the npc commander characters with the last name jameson your first name, wtf is the use of that, who wants their first name only on an npc character and be forced to have the last name jameson, seems pretty pointless to me.

also the timing on this is kinda bad, makes them look like they are jumping on chris roberts bandwagon with the success of his wing commander kickstarter, and the fact that they have nothing prepared videowise or screenshot wise makes it look even more so.

just wondering why this project has 60 days to reach its goal? and every other game i remember only had 30 days, i figured 30 days was a kickstarter rule, and if not why would people choose 30 days if they could have 60?

like briangw pointed out $32 is way to much just for a digital copy, most kickstart games give you one for $10-20

Gotta love how the devs look busy at work in the BBC link, and then the next shot is just a wallpaper they've made  ;D

Not buying this at all tbh. The reason Star Citizen got so much buzz was because of the epic trailers and developers showing off what they've made before funding... here we just get a logo  :D

I'm in at the £50 mark. The Frontier Elite 2 disk lived in the drive of my Atari ST for about 6 months

I still have the Amiga version of Frontier with box, floppies, manual, map and novella sitting proudly on the shelf.
Pledged £50 which is way too much considering the project is still pure vaporware after all.

pretty disappointing kickstarter campaign. they don't really seem to take it seriously.
Other campaigns, like wasteland 2 or project eternity, had at least a campaign video and artworks.. this is just a wall of text.

multiplayer? meh, don't need that in an elite type game
procedural content? meh, basically every other time this means boring random missions.. kill W number of X at point Y to get Z credits!

still, for now i will give it the favor of doubt. if they improve their campaign, i might even back it.

The way I see it, this is not vaporware. Over the years Braben said he always wanted to create another Elite, but was waiting for the technology to catch up so he could create a game that's a worthy successor, not just more of the same. He said somewhere that he wanted to give the player for example the opportunity to leave the ship. Looking at GTAs it's obvious that the technological possibilities were already there, but now he couldn't find publishers for his game, so that's where kickstarter comes in.

I agree the campaign so far is lacking, but they said they will add more content (why didn't they plan this before?).

There will be Singleplayer, but if you want to you can invite friends. I assume this works much like the instances in Path of Exile. Offline mode? I don't know.

it may not be vaporware, but it doesnt instill confidence the fact that it came out right on the heels of the wing commander kickstarter, and the fact that they had absolutely nothing prepared for it, they should have held off for a few months and at least prepeared a few screenshots, a better more detailed businesss plan and a video of some sort.

Yeah I have to believe that you are correct.  They went into the campaign very unprepared which is a bit of a shame.  The added video seems a bit rushed as well.  It would be better if they let someone else other than David speak to be honest as he's quickly spitting out the same facts from a BBC article as they launched it.

They need to up their game in order to meet their goal, that's for sure.  At least their running it for 60 days in total, so it's over the Christmas period beyond Star Citizen.  They need a good customer relations guy to help them reach out effectively.
