"Must have" Mac apps / games
« on: September 15, 2012, 07:04:15 PM »
So, in toying around with Mac virtualized, I realize I don't know what the big deal / difference is when it boils down to functionality. So, if anyone knows, what are some Mac exclusive apps or games that should be tried out.

there's nothing mac exclusive out there that's worth talking about.

i have to ask shwaggy, how come you're using osx virtualised? are you just bored with windows and curious or do you actually prefer the OS at this point?

I'm just bored and learning about virtualization and might as well learn a little bit about Mac.

I asked myself the same question after having Mountain Lion on a VM. What do i do now?

Installed Office 2011 and Creative Suite 6, not much else.

iTunes sucks equally hard on OSX as on Windows.

Aperture doesn't work due to lack of graphics acceleration.

Yeah.

The big deal is that mac sucks...  period.  Apple products are trendy bullshit.  The mac USED to be king for video editing, desktop publishing and photo editing.  But anymore, that's complete bullshit.  There is nothing on the mac anymore that can 'pwn' the PC.  The mac is for non-tech oriented, trendy idiots who are too stupid to figure shit out on their own.

Then why is it that most Software (and Web) developers choose Mac over Windows? Could it be the *nix command prompt? The pre installed Apache, Java and Python?
Mac laptops aren't even more expensive than Dells or HPs. A comparably equipped Win7 laptop might cost one or two hundred dollars less than a mid 2012 Macbook pro with retina, but that's it.
(I  wanna add that I have never owned a Mac in my life, only PCs since 1993 and before that it was C64 and Amiga, but I recently used one and am seriously toying about getting one because I am far more interested in programming than gaming these days)

You'll learn far more by controlling your environment rather than living in the walled garden that Apple force you into. The only reason to develop on a mac is for iPhone/iPad apps, and there are a shit load of iOS developers out there which skew the figures.

*most*??  where are you getting your statistics from?  If you are smart enough to be a DECENT developer, wouldn't you want to install your own virtual development environment?  Windows based machines have plenty of LAMP environments to web develop in.  Mac has Python?  I guess Python developers in windows are too stupid to install it since it isn't pre-loaded.   And only a moron would be serious about any kind of software development on a mac, unless you were developing for a mac.

Many of the top linux kernel developers use Os X... Hell fucking linus motherfucking torvalds use a macbook air, you need to get out of that retarded noob shit attitude created by ur slight early proficiency in computers, Os X is simply a clean version of Unix with a lots of shit written for it, nothing less nothing more. Yes there is a lot of sandboxed shit and an app store now that you dont even have to use, still when it comes down to writting actual code, its a very nice platform and you havn't made any rational point whatsoever about why the fuck would anybody not want to use it as a developping platform.

You can even use vmware on it and virtualise the shit you need so I just dont know wtf ur talking about you big fucking noob. Meanwhile, visual studio and windows 8 are fucking disasters, ffs the new visual studio install so many fucking shit on your Os it is now fucking necessary to install it on a virtual machine if you dont want to crap into your main partition. And lets not even talk about windows 8 and all the fucking around u need to do in order to get a real Os out of it instead of a fucking retarded touch screen iOs wannabe shit piece of fuck.

I was gonna answer to sativa but quoting tehjord was much easier. And yes, I have been chatting with a well known Python dev who has even written a book about IronPython which should make him kind of a Microsoft "aficionado" and he said that most developers choose OSX over Win since it's closer to Unix/Linux among other things.
BTW, all these Ms Vs Apple, PS Vs Xbox, Iphone Vs Android flame wars are soooo 80s and 90s...
