Help name this movie thread.

I'm sure one's been started already but I'll sticky this for other ones.

I'm thinking of a movie, about 5-7 years old. Independent film about a young man coming back to live at home after rehab. It's set in the winter time and one of the first few scenes is the young man shoveling snow. The young man eventually succombs and relapses. Towards the end of the film he gets behind the wheel while drunk and very emotional and crashes his car on purpose to try and kill himself.

I got one.

What I think is Mel Gibson is chasing someone and there's rain and strong winds. The one he is chasing is running across an open field, possibly a football field and he is very far away from the protagonist. Maybe Mel Gibson carefully aims with his pistol and hits the running man from far far away. Later segments someone tells him that only he could make that shot or something.
