My hopes are slim to nil. Gaming has changed a great deal over the last ten years; namely, the market has been expanded greatly, and now the money made from selling to casual gamers is far greater than breaking into the hardcore market. So people who already dominated the hardcore market will continue releasing rehashes and sequels, while all the innovators will work on smaller, less ambitious titles that are suitable to younger and older audiences that can't handle more than 3 buttons.
Call me pessimistic, but I'm almost done with Max Payne 3 and it's a damn bore. Sticks heavily to the Rockstar formula, and to hell with whatever Remedy made ten years ago.
