Wow, this has to cover almost every single damn remake really.

The XCOM that Firaxis is working on, and set to be out in October, isn't an FPS.

Indeed I was referring to the FPS shooter one which seemed to have almost nothing to do with the Xcom universe other than the name. None of the ones I mentioned were remakes really, but the thread was aimed at games which were amazing and then a new version/update/sequel came out that was tragic. Deus Ex 2 would be another one.

I keep forgetting/telling-myself that they're making anything other than the turn-based XCOM game.

If you're including sequels and whatnot then there are a shit-lot of games that missed the bar. Some that come to mind: any of the new Alone in the Dark games, all the UFO: What's-its XCOM clones, any Gabriel Knight game after the second. Commandos: Strike Force is a glaring one, and that most recent Tiberium Sun/C&C game. Any Sonic game past Sonic & Knuckles, if we're looking at consoles, and that last Zelda game.
