With the ps4 you get the equivalent of 750$ worth of pc hardware for like 400$, available holidays 2013. Mid range at conception but optimization might help a bit and some of the OS features make things more interesting.

Good thing they ditched their old shit and went back to the normal optimized-pc-in-an-box just like the xbox.

maybe now we'll see it modded too!

PC is the only choice for me next gen. No subscription fees, cheaper prices, games finally optimized for PC and DX 11, nobody calling me a faggot over the headset and I'll be safe in mind knowing anything consoles can do visually, my PC will do better.

The most impressive video for me was the Capcom one with the knight and dragon. Although I've never seen a game use that amount of tessellation so I'd be highly surprised if that was actually running on a PS4

EDIT:

The footage I'm referring to:

But some games I really want to play are not on PC. So why not have both, right?

Wouldn't it theoretically become easier to port PS4 games to the PC now though? I haven't looked deeply into PS4's specs but from what I understand it's almost a PC anyway? I wonder if devs actually take advantage of this or will they hide behind the "PC is piracy" excuse.

I think that the Japanese devs will hide behind the "no one here has a powerful PC" excuse.

Well that knight and dragon vid to me seems like 50/50 pre-render and actual ingame footage. Given it's amd cpu with 8 (probably logical, not physical) cores and amd gpu that's on a level of GTX 580 I would be surprised to see something that beats the pc level of graphics. This is clearly visible in Watch Dogs demo - it's the same engine that was used in AC with pc-level textures - nothing more, nothing less.

As KK mentioned - next gen of consoles will bring one good thing to pc market. Finally "console port" won't be a good enough excuse for developers as both markets will use nearly identical hardware. At least up to the point when next gen cpu's and gpu's will become standard for pc's but they'll still be limited by DX architecture.

Ps.
Anyone here is worried about AMD shipping hardware for both next-gen consoles? No matter what you pick, PS4 or X720 you still end up with AMD cpu/gpu. Also, what about cpu TDP? Those amd fuckers reach 125W, will we see another flood of RRODs?

What games though? Halo, one of the most over-rated franchises of all time, Killzone and Gears of War. The only ones that ever tempt me toward a console is the Quantic Dreams ones (Heavy Rain, etc). But for me it isn't enough to warrant splashing out another £400. I honestly believe we'll see less and less exclusives as publishers and developers will need the extra income and will want to take advantage of the same architecture.
As Chomiq said, games will be much easier to develop cross platform next gen. We already have a lot of console games that come out on PC, so then they'll be even more optimized...

Sony has the most and highest quality 1st party studios out of all 3 console manufacturers.  Skipping an Xbox is easy, only exclusives I care about on Xbox are Halo and Gears of War. Nintendo has Zelda and Mario.  Sony has God of War, Little Big Planet, Uncharted Series, Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank , Team ICO games, Resistance series, Quantum Dream games, Gran Turismo, Journey (probably the best budget/download game ever made), Twisted Metal, MLB The Show, Wipeout, etc. - and that's only 1st party.  When you count 3rd party there's stuff like Ni No Kuni (the only actual good JRPG this entire generation), etc.

Haters can can talk all the shit they want about those games but when you look at metacritic numbers the fact is most of them  are some of the highest rated games in their respective genres/generation and they will *never* be on PC.

I get every system, and enjoy those console games like metal gear revengence and heaps of others that don't come out on PC, so I never understand why people would stick to one platform unless they hate good games, they could release a shitty spec ps4 and I'm sure a dev would come up with something worth playing still but it has 8gb ddr5 which is why you can have tessellation (new $999 Titan nvidia card has only 4gb) of that level its pretty nice feature that should really have been underlined more.

I think you're getting confused. The PS4 has 8GB of ram, and 2.2GB of vram. Tessellation will be down to the CPU and GPU's processing power, neither of which will compete with a gaming PC...

according to http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/df-hardware-spec-analysis-playstation-4
ps4 will have 8gigs of unified gddr5 ram. the 8 gigs (16x the amount of ps3s) announcement was definitely a nice surprise.

the specs are irrelevant as consoles can't be upgraded and by the time the ps4 is out there will be hardware two times faster than it is anyway.

and six months later the ps4 hardware will be obsolete as per the natural order of things.

you can have your halo 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 and 9 and 10. i'm sticking with pc.
