Rooting your phone - have you done it?
« on: November 29, 2011, 03:48:14 PM »
I'm not asking for advice on how to root. I know how to use Google. I just figured I'd see who has done it and whether anyone has had any negative experiences doing it.

The first thing I ever do on a new phone or tablet is root it and install custom ROM's. It's what makes Android so much better than iOS.

The first thing I ever do on a new iphone or ipad is see if it has an untethered jailbreak.  It is what makes iOS so much better.  :D

on andriod, 'rooting' is not such a big deal as it is in ios...

you just replace the firmware, simple, fast and easy.

dont like the stock firmware? just install a new one just like you install a new windows on pc..

nothing out of ordinary, the only new thing you will see is a yellow triangle with ! mark when you boot it..

So far I've rooted my Galaxy S about a dozen times, my GF's Galaxy S2, my Nook Touch Simply (twice), and my HP Touchpad is now running rooted CM7.

Sometimes it goes sideways on you, but Android is pretty tolerant of your fuckups. I've never fucked it up so bad that I couldn't recover with Odin.

Rooted my Droid Incredible to get rid of the HTC 'no application data space' bug, never looking back. Will root every phone I get in the future.

Rooted Hero, EVO 4G, EVO 3D, Xoom... I couldn't imagine leaving a phone stock. Customize the look, increase performance and battery life, delete carrier bloat including the dreaded CIQ spyware, enable wifi tethering, and install full backup utilities to save and restore all apps and data. If only more people took the time to learn of the endless potential they have with their Android devices.

Whoa, I am a procrastinator. I finally rooted my Nexus S 4G. Getting everything set-up. Any must-have apps that require root?

Titanium Backup, Goo Manager, TWRP2, AdFree, Novalauncher Prime does some tricks if you have root, SuperUser (obviously), uhhh, that's mostly it.
If you aren't running AOKP as your flavor of Rom, you're missing out.

The most important app is the FIREWALL for android. Blocks all 3G activity as well as Wifi for many apps which doesn't require the internet at all except when they wish to feed you with in-app adds.

Thanks Grinch!  I'd never heard of AOKP before.  I've never tried any of the custom ROMs before either.  I installed a version of AOKP and am loving it!  Very nice.

Installed....  great program.  I could never understand why a flashlight application would need internet access.
