QUAKE: 15th Anniversary
« on: June 23, 2011, 10:03:32 AM »
Great video!

http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/06/22/quakes-15th-anniversary/

I remember playing Quake for the first time on my new GATEWAY Pentium 60.  I'll never forget the feeling of "OMG! I'm walking around a true 3-D world!"

Of course, Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM were my first PC games.

Have a nice day.  :)

If it ain't English - it's jibberish.

TF still beats the pants off any multiplayer FPS today.

Remember the Quake 1 "demo" (shareware) that contained an entire chapter out of the 4+1 chapters available in the full game? Nowadays game demos contain 5 minutes of gameplay and 15 minutes of cutscenes....if there's a demo at all.

Oh, and if you want a nice read about id software and the time of Doom and Quake, I suggest you pick up Masters of Doom. It's a light read and shows you what happened behind the scenes during those times.

And you could play all the maps from the shareware chapter online, 9 including the difficulty select intro and Ziggurat Vertigo, that's more than most full games come out with now.

I'd rather not. I've been reading Retro Gamer and one thing it did, was make brilliant game seem less brilliant after you hear stories of how they faffed about with certain parts or how certain parts were dropped or how much dull work parts of it were. For example, when you read that the Wolfenstein 3D level were made in a day and no-one wanted to make them because they were so dull ... doesn't really make you go "oh wow" but rather "WTF".

With Doom, I have this idea of a fun office with lots of interesting characters, a lot of fun to be had next to developing games and I want to keep that idea :p

MASTERS OF DOOM was an awesome read.  Loved how the company came together and developed into id Software ... and the fall of ION Storm.  What a mess that was!

Have a nice day.  :)
