When I hit report post I get errors.

Can be replicated by being an ass kisser.

I tried reporting some spam/bot posts months ago and it didn't work.

Reporting of posts has been broken ever since Mandarin's IRC mod bot died. Hopefully, this function will be restored soon when we upgrade to the new phpBB. Admin is working on it ...

In the mean time, if you wish to report a post, just PM a helpful mod, like myself or Shwagy. :)
