I'm reading the book and watching the series at the same time (not to compare, but because I didn't manage to read the book in time before the season started and I couldn't resist to watch it). The tv series is getting further away from the source material. Not for the better, by far. But it's still good in it's own merits. I just wish that they didn't spend 10% of the last episode's time with the unecessary torture of Theon's scene. But I guess they had to give something for the actor to act, or he wouldn't appear in this season.

Also, they're making Tyrion too "nice guy", when he's not. He's very flawed. I don't know why they are afraid to not have a clear nice guy for people to root for. Other series had flawed main characters: Sopranos, for example. Yet, people liked and rooted for them.

Actually, the parts with Theon are from book 5. They're telling the story chronologically, so not necessarily in the order the book tells it.

I wonder what will they make up until GRRM releases the 6th book. I hope they don't keep the torture scenes until season 9.

The 5th books goes into detail about the torture time?

Yeah it does. And it's alot worse than what we saw in the tv-show.

We still have the second part of book 3 for season 4. There's actually so much going on in part 2 that I'm not sure if they'll be able to fit it all in a single season. And then there's 2 more books to go until GRRM needs to be ready with book 6, so he has at least 3 more years to complete it. Normally, I'd say that's plenty, but it's GRRM of course...  :P

What is your point?
The books told you about what happend to Theon. It dosn't really matter how it was told.

You first asked if the books goes in to detail about the torture. The anwser is Yes.

Alot of way more important scenes have been changed, added and cut. Even the part with Theon is way more brutal in the books.

Yummy, nice slave girl. Far too little screen time for her.

Based on this btw. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacre_of_Glencoe

It was a cool episode but I felt it was all over the place as if trying to tie up tons of loose ends before deadline.

Sucks about the Chaplin girl though, what a sweet ass.

Thanks for the link  :)
I read about the desctruction of the MacDonald-clan when I visited Scotland many years ago, but never made the link to the GoT universe. Interesting stuff!

I don't remember from the books that Ingrid shot arrows at Jon? Did she? And where's that hooded dead guy who helped Sam and Gilly.

The scene with Ingrid was not in the books.
I think the hooded dead guy might show up in the next season guiding Bran north to the crow
