The only that can break this show is the ending. HBO ends its shows before it drags, but teh books will never finish before book 9-10 judging by the pace. Maybe they'll let their own writers come up with an ending when the time comes.

A Song of Ice and Fire is going to be a six book saga.  The 5th book will finally be released this summer.

Brilliant pilot.

although i dont know how much someone who hasnt read the books will like it

I've not read the books and I thought the pilot was awesome. Is there any blatant magic in the series though like fireballs and shit or just the White Walker type stuff that they showed? I much prefer low fantasy to high fantasy.

magic in the books is used very sparingly and is rare and difficult to use, but it does exist

nah i heard the saga has 2 more books even after the one is released this summer. and since the first book came out in the early 90s, it'll be AT LEAST 5 years each for subsequent books

Originally it was planned to be a trilogy, but the author later said it would be 7 books. Of course, that was before he decided to split the 4th book (feast for crows), so we don't know if now it will be 8 books...

I believe before the split it was supposed to be 6, after that it was said to be a 7 part series. A Song of Ice and Fire wiki says 7 as well

1. A Game of Thrones      -     August 1996
2. A Clash of Kings         -     November 1998
3. A Storm of Swords      -     August 2000
4. A Feast for Crows      -     October 2005
5. A Dance with Dragons -   (Announced) July 12, 2011
6. The Winds of Winter   -     (Forthcoming)
7. A Dream of Spring      -     (Forthcoming)

Hopefully the last 3 books will be released in the same time frame as the first 3, or we may never see this series complete on TV, or even worse, through the books.

I didn't watch it yet, but I already know the removed the polemic "it should be you" line from Catelyn to Jon. And "It's called Summer", from a certain other character, when his direwolf is executed...

I don't understand there omissions. I mean, it's okay all those soft porn scenes and even pushing a kid from the window... But a mean line from Cathlyn is censored?

Good show. The casting is perfect. The only problem is, as Sabbath and vomitory said, that the show's images may replace your own - which sucks.

Almost all characters in the series are great, including the ones you love to hate. My favorites are Tyrion and Jaime Lannister. Jon Snow is also cool. Those of you who haven't read the books are in for tons of fun.

If you like political intrigue in a medieval/classical setting, also try the classic "I, Claudius":

2nd episode was a bit slow. I didn't read any of the books and I didn't even know about the books until this thread, so sue me.

I didn't either (although I am enjoying the show) so how about we split those legal fees

Yah, the episodes are parts of a whole. This mini-series is more a 10 hour movie than a weekly show.
