I'm also looking forward for those 10 episodes. Just two weeks to go.

so far so good, but at that pace i'm not sure how they'll fit the whole book into 10 episodes, 14 minutes and they havent even got to the direwolves yet

I watched the first scene and wasnt happy.  Where the fuck were those mysterious knights and their ultra thin swords, with their icicle voices?  It wasnt the dead that came back to life, it was Royce after he got slaughtered by the knights.

Loved the pilot, as did everyone else in our viewing party.  And we are all big fans of the books.  Look for HBO to announce season two tomorrow from what I've been hearing.  The Renaissance of the genre series has reached its zenith.

I'll be watching this tonight. I'm almost afraid, with all the hype around it.

I've not read the books and I thought the pilot was awesome. Is there any blatant magic in the series though like fireballs and shit or just the White Walker type stuff that they showed? I much prefer low fantasy to high fantasy.

If I remember correctly there were no magicians or such in the books. It's main focus are the relations between persons and houses.
But still there is plenty of fantasy still to come ;)

Btw, f*ing brilliant show. Exactly what I hoped it to be.

I've watched and enjoyed it, although I think it wasn't enough to grab the viewers who didn't read the books.

But there are many good series that had not so interesting pilots but managed to become increasingly good.

The cliffhanger in the end certainly spiked my fiancée's interested (she forced me to tell her what happened to Bran), I hope it will be enough to make people stick with the series a little bit longer.

There are some magicians, or rather, some people who can harvest the power of certain Gods. Still not that many though, which I agree is a good thing and what makes this series so great is that the fantasy is kept low enough to not be over the top, but at the same time is still there to make it interesting. Most people in the book don't even believe in magic or the walking dead because they don't even know they exist.

I like how they blended something that looked like old greece with the more typical medieval setting. In general I think it was really good and I've never read the books. Pretty harsh environment for the kids though and the Queen was an ice queen. Nice acting and casting.

And it's also been renewed for a second season already;D
