do you need to have a modchip to run this? excuse my lack of knowledge but from what I know, you can install the homebrew channel without using a modchip. is that right?

This was told to me, found it very useful, and everything works like a charm now.

Pretty easy instructions. I have a 120gb HDD hooked up to my Wii and thats how I play all my games.

I use Wii Backup Manager to load them onto the drive.

so i've got my wii softmodded, got all the ios's sorted and 'pimpmywii' seems happy with the setup. ive used that uloader and the other big usb loader (gsx? cant remember and im at work). my ntsc games dont work but my pal ones do. i ran the isos thru 'wiibrickblocker' and 'regionfrii' but it doesnt seem to have made any difference. any ideas?

I haven't used my Wii in a couple of months, but if I remember correctly it's a matter of tinkering with the individual settings of each game. There is a video mode (or something like that) setting for each game; tinker with it (of course if the game doesn't run), until you find an option that works. There's auto, pal, ntsc, and others, just find the right one.

I'm pretty sure there's some newer CIOSes that break some games. Try googling and see if you need to install an older CIOS 38 or something like that.

thanks for the advice mate, i went back to cios rev 14 but now when i launch usb loader gx it gives me the disc read error as soon as i go to launch the game. i tried it using uloader and it played fine for a couple of hours though?! in usb loader gx, i tried changing the ios to both 222 and 249 but that made no difference. would using a patched version of the game make any difference? i have far less patience with the wii than the ps3 or 360 lol :(
