I've downloaded and watched this release:

The.Day.After.Tomorrow.2004.720p.DTheater.x264-hV

about 6.5 GB in size, quality is GREAT, there's logos and FBI warnings before the movie, so it's not an HDTV rip.
What the heck is DTHEATER???

Sorry, I just added a hyphen (D-Theater) and google started pooping answers like the hamster pooped little shits in Nutty Professor 2

So, apparently quality is pretty much the same as BD or HD-DVD... or at least it seems to me...
