At Steve Jobs' keynote at Macworld he revealed the much rumoured iPhone.
Featuring:
- Dimensions of 115 x 61 x 11.5 mm
- 3.5" screen with a resolution of 480 x 320px
- Fully touchscreen and multi touch
- 4GB or 8 GB of storage, no SD cards
- Bluetooth with EDR and A2DP, WiFi that automatically engages when in range(cloud02 note:this ought to be a battery eating bitch), and quadband GSM radio with EDGE
- Runs OS X
- 2 megapixel camera
- 5 hours of battery life for talk or video, 16 hours in music mode with no word on standby time.

The phone will be available in June in the US as a Cingular exclusive for $499 on a two-year contract, 8GB for $599. Followed up by Europe in Q4 of 2007, and 2008 in Asia.

The phone will face a stiff competition in the mobile market, from main manufacturer Nokia, and SonyEricsson and niche manufacturer HTC which phones the iPhone seems like a copy of. HTC already have a lineup of phones that have touchscreen and wifi, with a full keybaord that slides in and out from beneath.

I'd start by looking into the validity of Cingular's little dropped call study they site when they claim that they have the fewest dropped calls. I was on Cingular, and hated it.

I've had cingular (or whatever it was called before) for about 7 years. I have never had any problems with them.

Wow that's a nice phone...but surely you'll be pressing mute or whatever with your cheek during phonecalls?  :?
Okay, are you forgetting that I was a professional twice over, an analyst and a therapist. The world's first analrapist.

2 megapixel camera, oh my nokia will have 5 megapixel out by then so would other phones.

Am i guessing that the battery of the phone will be internal and cant be removed ? Did apple not learn ? What about the screen does it crack easily because people will carry this around more than their ipods.

Puke. You know what, as much as I love gadgets and all, I'm just not into these "do-everything" phones. My phone can play MP3s, but I *never* use it, I'd rather bring my "real" music player.
Whatever.

It looks ok but I was just reading about how another company owned the name "iPhone" and released a product with that name already.  Also, they had bought out a company which released an "iPhone" in '97.

I wonder if Apple bought the rights to it or if something else happened.

Wow, the UI looks astonishing. Love the multi touch thing to resize photos, and how it flips the display as you flip the phone. Looks incredibly natural to use and a whole bunch of cool stuff.

XIV - Its not 'pda stuff', its just more user friendly than anything you're used to. Having the screen adapt to show only 'buttons' relevant to what you're doing is going to make this the easiest to use mobile device ever.

You can quote me on this - it will be a bigger success than the ipod.

I'd probably think about buying it if it didn't run Mac software and it wasn't a phone. (i.e., make me a Windows machine like that kthx)
