You ask me to justify myself?  I bite my thumb at thee good sir!

The day that I can know "exactly" what I'm getting is the day I'll stop downloading games.  Even if we neglect the fact that we all have debts; be it college, a family to support, or some other interesting curve ball the creator sees fit to throw our way - there still exists the very real fact that karma comes and goes.

Karma?  Forgive my fubblings but to put it bluntly I'm a person that believes you get what you put out.  This all leads back to that whole "knowing exactly what you're getting," comment.  If I could have an official review of a game from a game company telling me exactly what a game was then I might be inclined to return their honest explanations with my hard earned dollar.

So far what I've typed sounds like fillabuster bullshit so I'll cut to examples.  Recently I downloaded Marvel Ultimate Alliance.  Now if I were to believe the reviews around the net and even one-fourth of what was advertised on the tube then this game would seem to be a god send.  "The most heroes ever in any game and all under your control!"  This, to the advertising adgency's credit is the truth; however, it's what they don't say.  They don't tell you how dry and repetitive the gameplay will be.  They don't tell you that within an hour of playing you have more or less experienced the whole of the game.  This would all be fine and great if I could pay 5 or 10 bucks upfront (like a security deposit) and then pending my future enjoyment pay for the full cost of the game later, alas my money is gone.

The thing that I dislike most about the whole gaming concept is that save renting a game, you pretty much go in blind nil.  You may get shafted, you may find that coveted ambrosia of a gaming lifetime.  I guess, I mean to say that if I could pay someone 10 bucks a month for an honest, no bullshit, up and up review of a game then maybe I'd put more faith in buying video games.  I've been burned far to many times to even dream of buying games anymore.  Marvel Ultimate Alliance (PC), Devil May Cry 2 (PS2), Red Steel (think initial reviews not the ones AFTER you've purchased the damn thing), etc - all shit.  For every gem (Company of Heroes, Gears of War, etc.) I find, I end up wasting countless bucks on games that can only be described as absolute shit.

So, for me, everything comes full circle.  Karmatic flow balances out.  This is a revenge of sorts for me.  For every legit, piece of shit game and review I've put up with I'll simply take my proverbial pound of flesh in gigabytes.  Sure some good developers will get the shaft.  Well...guess what?  Now they'll know how my fucking bank account felt about the games (read: cup coasters) that I foolishly bought.  I mean I really use to be on the up and up (buying games), and then shit games, bugs, and beta versions wearing gold code release tags anally assaulted me.

They say Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, nor hell a fury like a woman scorned.  Well they ain't got shit on a fed up gamer.

Piracy is stealing right? you wouldnt go out and steal a car though, you wouldnt rob an old lady. so whats your justification for downloading stuff?

I think most would indeed steal cars aswell if they cost 5 dollars to manufactur and sold for 200 000 dollars. Then add to that usage like all tax booth profits going to the car maker.

Software industry isnt as bad as music but they are glancing at the same level of insane greed..

Reading all this I bet if we were all paid minimum wage for every hour of download-futzing, looking for channels/torrents of what we want, getting said item, getting it to work (properly) via installing codec-this or YASU-that, perhaps fucking with our registries and unplugging hardware, constantly checking our dl speed etc., chitting and chatting about why x game will or won't suck while we count down till we get it on this friggin site not to mention the time spent here and in offical dev forums trying to get find out all the copy-pro tricks, and the amount of time it took us to learn how to do all this quickly and efficiently (believe me, it's takes me awhile to walk some of my dumbass friends through it) AND the fact that we often have to deal with castrated products missing extras/music/commentary/multiplayer support AND the time that we end up watching compressed blurry cam's of new releases at our desk on our monitor and think we came anywhere close to "experiencing" the film properly (theatre) . . . .

we could've bought all the shit anyway.

If I could clone a car I wanted then you better believe I'd steal it.
I don't necessarily agree with everything I think

Goddamn, I never knew it was actually hurting people. Rockers are getting broke man, Jack Black himself said so. That Southpark ep about piracy comes to mind. Why did I not pay attention.
My piracy days are over.

yeah but pirating shit is definitely fun (and/or interesting), while working minimum wage is most likely not.
