So here I am, contributing to an ancient thread. Long hair; Dont care. Drunk as fuck.

Just watched a Korean movie, A Bittersweet Life. It actually came recommended from this actual thread from many eons ago.

7/10

This film was great. Had this film used characters from a different country, I would have gave this film an 8...maybe a 9. But they all look too similar. At the end, it came down to 4 characters. The fancy fuck. The long haired bastard. The old guy and the guy with the crew cut. Other than that, It was hard to distinguish who was who at first, but then I used their haircuts to settle them out.
Why?

We Are The Best

A Swedish flick about 3 teenage girls starting a punk band in the early 80s.
It's a cute/fun film. Not a whole lot happens, but I did think the ending was played out really well.

Automata - 2014

With Antonio Banderas as a guy who does insurance claims for robots, or something like that.
Kind of a weird mess of a movie. Cribs super hard from other dystopian sci-fi's like Blade Runner for atmosphere, but doesn't have the budget or acting skill throughout to really execute on much.
Steals pretty liberally from I Am Robot as well.
First half, kinda watchable, second half, boring mess in a desert.
-1 point for trying to let Melanie Griffith "act" also. Jesus.

4/10

A Most Wanted Man - 2013

One of the last Philip Seymour Hoffman movies, and also an adaptation of a John LeCarre novel, so two great things right there.
Plays out slow and even handed, almost like Tinker Tailor, though not quite as epic (that cast was unreal)
A solid, slow burning spy flick that's very much grounded in reality. Like a long episode of Homeland, minus the ugly crying face.

I would say Grinch is more or less spot on on "A most wanted man". Solid movie, not really on par with Tinker Tailor but it's more of a modern time spy drama and not really seaking out comparisons.

Also watched Automata but don't really have som much to add to what Grinch said.  Maybe I enjoyed the fist half more, deflated quite a bit after that.

Some great movies I watched lately

Northern Soul http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1837613/?ref_=nv_sr_1overall 8/10 with some amazing tracks and I didn't even think I liked soul.

Stretch http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2494280/?ref_=nv_sr_1 This hit all the right buttons at the right time for me. Even if all the twists don't work for you, it's still a hollywood movie made in hollywood. Fast and tasty and goes down like popcorn.

The Battery 2012 or Ben and Mickey vs the undead http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2272350/?ref_=nv_sr_1 I don't even like zombie movies, but this is more like a Gus van Sand meets DayZ. It really works.

Space Station 76 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2369317/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 while it may not be exactly in the same league are the movies above, it's combining that late 70's space movie feel (space 1999 anyone) with a little bit of soap opera and space melancholy. An RT rating higher than the imdb rating is almost always a good sign.

Last night (because I'm old, boring and have a kid now) we stayed in and watched a couple of movies.
We watched The Babadook and The Guest.
Both are enjoyable in their own ways. The Guest is like a ghetto Bourne I guess, with a WICKED soundtrack oddly. It's also super hokey and funny at some points (probably unintentionally).
The Babadook is a horror/thriller piece. It's good in it's own right, but some people will definitely find it a little basic or juvenile.
