So... What Did You Just Watch?
« on: September 06, 2005, 09:00:28 AM »
i tought it could be fun to post the movies you just watched, old or new it doesn't matter. if possible add an imdb link and a short impression, maybe a score out of 5? i'll try to post everything i watch here. so when you're bored and can't decide what to watch, you can check here for ideas. maybe use the same 'template' i did for thread uniformity.

so, last weekend i watched:

Boogeyman (2005) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0357507/
horrible, messy horror movie without any redeeming qualities. skip if you can! 2/5

13 moons (2002) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0276744/
excellent indie flick by alexandre rockwell starring steve buscemi... 4/5

Häxan (1922) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0013257/
great silent movie about the history of witchcraft, amazingly modern views and irony for such an old movie. my 2 disc set also contained a jazzed up version with dialogue by william s. burroughs! 4/5

Rabid (1977) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076590/
this was one of the few early cronenberg movies i hadn't watched before. not a bad zombie movie, and an easy on the eyes ex porn star in the lead 3/5

Killer Barbys vs Dracula (2002) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327001/
hehe, i knew jesus franco made some bad movies... but this is one of the worst pieces of crap i ever saw... no plot, stupid rockmusic, nothing to recommend this except one or two oneliners... 2/5
I hate people, but I love gatherings.

The Mafia:

Documentry about The Mafia, though there have been countless movies and documentries i thought this one differed from the rest. They showed the connection of the Italian Mafia, it's roots and how they spread their power to the states. I think National Geographic did a great job, the scenes that they had (from the 70's + ) we're authentic and gave a nice touch, music was superb and the narrator was clear and understandable.

4/5

Fantastic Four. All I can say is that I'm glad I didn't pay to watch it.

I, Robot.. which was a bit lamer then the first time I saw it. A couple of the action scenes were cool tho.
...and that\'s the end of that chapter.

A Bittersweet Life (2005) http://imdb.com/title/tt0456912/
Pretty cool action flick. If you like torture violence and gun fights, and if you liked Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and A Better Tomorrow then you gonna like this flick, it's kinda a mix of those movies. The first half of the film builds up suspense and story (tho the romance part was a bit weak IMO). The remaining half of the movie is full action and violence. 8/10 recommended
Quoted: "The storyline of A Bittersweet Life is a very simple one and the characters display no depth or complexity as well. But the charm of this movie lies in the style of its storytelling and excellently choreographed action scenes."

The Scarlet Letter (2004) http://imdb.com/title/tt0427411/
Complex suspense drama about a cop whose lust for love threatens to get in the way of his professional life. Twisted murder resolving flick, If you like this kind of stuff and some hot soft sexscenes hehe. 6/10

Tattooed Life (1965) http://imdb.com/title/tt0059320/
It's about two brothers that accidentally kill a yakuza mobster boss and are on the run from the gangmembers that want them dead. 6.5/10

Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) http://imdb.com/title/tt0054698/
Kinda boring and empty flick for my taste, but it was cool to see George Peppard R.I.P (Hannibal in A-team) in this as a young gentleman. 5/10

Will be back with more movies.

BTW, Krizza good thread idea  :)

Dangerous Liasons (1988)
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0094947/

Cruel Intentions (1999)
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0139134/

Valmont (1989)
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0098575/

i'm very fond of plots featuring intrigue and deceit and also a sucker for  late 18th century settings (austen, o'brian etc) so, having never seen period piece dangerous liasons, i recorded it last week with no small amount of gleeful anticipation. i thought it was ok if a bit disappointing despite uma's lovely titties, and  of the three it strayed furthest from the original source. i found glenn close frankly unattractive in this picture which distracted me. john malkovitch does ok but doesn't feel right in the role

i saw cruel intentions when it first ran on cable, prolly 00-01, and saw part of it again last summer. it's a modern take on the same story with younger characters, by far the least artistic and least faithful  of the three but in all likelihood the most popular. can't remember if anyone got naked in this one, unless it was the nasty hoe playing cecille. never a big fan of buffy so this one left me cold

and finally last night i saw valmont. it followed the story closely, almost like a stage production. no big surprise there considering colin firth had the lead. costumes and sets were very impressive and, if you have acquired the taste that is firth, you can see a shockingly young and scarily naive looking fairuza balk's naked butt plus enjoy meg tilly's exotic good looks and the very alluring annette bening. the editing is a bit sloppy and rewrites are evident but all in all i liked this one best
