Very good fl, I'd say you gave it a good score it's just some other people score games a bit insanely like the fl on DoW, which got 48 and had about 2 things that made it special. (most of it was just a mix between Kohan and Wc3) DoW was a good game but in no way groundbreaking like hl2. However a bit harsh to let it lose 3 points on a sound issue which you didn¡¦t even say was a bad thing just a different preference to yoursƒº. Otherwise good fl.
Not a fan of the first game? Well we certainly disagree there.

The Best Game Ever Made dethroned by its sequel.

very good first look, but again i think most people are too hasty with rating things perfect or so close to perfect,i for one haven't seen any game come close to perfect ever, a perfect videogame would be as fun to play the 1000st time as it was the first, i do not think there wil ever be a perfect game, close but not perfect. Also being an old gamer i find it sad that audio and graphics get equal billing with gameplay, i think gameplay is far more important than even the sum of audio and graphics, this is a fantastic game and i love it but honestly its just something we've seen before done a little better and wrapped in a shiny new package, i personaly enjoyed older c-64 games and xt games more than this, games that were sold mostly on gameplay and couldn't rely on graphics or audio, and unfortunately games today are lacking in gameplay because of the emphasis on graphics and audio, sure they can be awe inspiring but a game they do not make. i personaly would have given half life 2 a 9/10 or 42-43/50

Now I didnt take the points off for a BAD soundtrack, but a LACK of one, now there are some little music pieces that play that heighten the mood which serve their purpose, but doesnt qualify as a soundtrack, which to me, will be present in any good/epic game.  And i will agree with you that DoW was awesome :)

And to fishboy, i rated this game close to perfect because i feel that it is, while i cant say its my favorite game of all time, it does raise the bar for its genre.  My rating is giving credit where credit is due and i thought it was justified.

The Axpi release doesn't work all that well. The AI becomes disabled now and then, and I get a graphics node rebuilding error message now and then. Nothing serious though.

I'm playing this until I have some spare bucks to buy this great game.

6 years of fun with the original and its mods, this one will keep me occupied until 2010 I think. :)

The comment you made....

Keep in mind I was not a fan of the original Half Life, and for that matter, quite the opposite.

I take it you didnt play it when it was first released? I ask because theres very few people who dont consider HL as a landmark game and one of the all time classics, but I noticed that these people often have played HL like a year or more after it was released thus shattering the sheer "game from the future" illusion that Valve create.

Well in saying that, you would be totally correct, i only played half life all the way through last year, when i thought HL2 was gonna come out after i saw the screens and videos, i didnt wanna be in the dark story-wise, so yeah i guess that would have an effect on the "wow" factor for me.

Personally I think you gave the game too high of a score on all accounts.  In my opinion, at least half of the textures are old textures from Half-Life ported over to the Source Engine and the Source Engine doesn't mean graphics.  I also don't think the lighting of the maps aren't the best either, and lighting in my opinion adds dynamics.  The in game audio was also seemed to be ported over from Half-Life.  From the classic swoosh of the crowbar, the hitting of a wall, to the way someone dies.  The soundrack is poorly implimented in the game as it goes off in random places.  The gameplay is getting to point B from point A without any real interactions with other computer players.  Basically I am doing all the work and the AI for the Human Resistance is doing all scripted what to follow next.

I know I pointed out all the bad things about it, I guess I believe more people are suffereing from the hype involved in the game.  My scores:  8/7/8 excluding the conclusion...

Anyways, your review is good as you write to back up with what you think, I don't agree with it.  Sorry.

[EDIT]
I meant the Source engine doesn't mean better graphics.
