OMG!

Irrational announces BioShock (Not a sequel to SS2)!

Irrational Games originally conceived of its cult-classic hybrid game System Shock 2 as a "spiritual successor" to the original game. And Irrational's next game will, in turn, be a "spiritual successor" to System Shock 2. We're pleased to bring you the first official details on BioShock, a new game that will attempt to further the open-ended, emergent gameplay of the previous games by offering even more choices for players to creatively interact with the world around them and to solve the challenges that face them.

BioShock is not a sequel to any of the System Shock games, nor does it have any official relation to those games. But like the previous games, this one will offer a horror-themed gameplay experience in which what you observe, and what happens to you, will be tempered by your own choices. "[At Irrational], we think emergence is the future," says Levine.

Sounds very weird, scary and unique.  Surely anything by the guys who did SS2 must be fantastic though.  I was kinda wondering if there was anything else to look forward to after Stalker, but now there definitely is.

I'm bummed that they're using the T:Vengeance engine.  Not the greatest choice imo.

Ah well, like SS and SS2, it's all about the gameplay.

I would be happy if they used the SS2 engine.  That was the best game ever.

You must have confused BioShock with some other game.

BioShock has been announced only for the PC.

Well, at the moment D3 engine means limited lighting (i.e, flashlight time) and small rooms and corridors, much more than that and framerates die. Having more flexibility would be nice.

They've got experience with T:V engine already so can probably do more with it, get things done quicker, etc. Also they could write new code into the engine if they wanted, it doesn't mean it will be limited to what you see in the Tribes game. Look at the difference between CoD:UO and Quake3, same engine, lots of new shit coded in.
