According to Gamespot, Bethesda Softworks is working on a new game in the franchise (sequel to Morrowind?).

Next gen consoles (XBOX 2 and PS3) are mentioned. But surely Bethesda would not fuck us over, the PC users, at least I hope they don't.

No details on the game yet. They are hiring extra people for this project.

My wishes for the 4th game:

1. New engine (Cry Engine, NetImmerse Engine 2) with significant draw distances.
2. Travel between the cities would be in REAL time, and not a lapse in time as it was in Morrowind.
3. THX surround sound/DD 7.1. Arx Fatalis pulled it off just fine, so this game should be as good or better.
4. Better story!
5. PHYSICS!!!! 'nough said

Feel free to post your wishes. ;)

Oh well, i didn't really like Morrowind, was eyecandy but lacked the freedom from Daggerfall (which was utterbugged...).
Well wait and see... hope there'll be more freedom in ES IV  - anyway won't be released before 2006 imo... still got time till that... Fallout 3 will maybe be on our HD before...

Travel between cities was only quick time if you took a boat or stiltrider. Walking was all real time. Island was too small, though.

My main reason to post is to add something you didn't list.

6. Horses. Daggerfall had them, Morrowind dropped them for whatever reason. I missed my horsey.

Yes, walking was in realtime, but I wish that they could do something like a mountable flying condor from World Of Worcraft instead of taking the siltstrider(sp?). Now that would be awesome!
But yeah, I agree with you horses would do fine as well. I just don't want to see the time lapse and magically appear in some other place.

Oh, and they need to add a way to manage your spells. On the Xbox Morrowind(no idea how the PC version plays), I must have had 150 spells at one point. It took over a full minute to scroll through.

Why the hell would you need physics in a RPG?!

I see that your creative thinking is limited. ;)

The fighting is in realtime, so why not use the physics-enabled surrounding objects as wepons ala PSI-OPS?

And what about implementing physics for destrctible objects, etc. For example, you hit an ogre with your Grand Sword of Uberl33t Power +6, that ogre then suffers considerable damage and by the sheer force of your sword it also gets knocked back a couple of feet bringing down and damaging the surrounding objects that were in his way.

That sound cool david but then we gotta say goodbye to RPG features such as "living world" and large large world maps, cuz I just don't see them making a huge world with every single object in it having physics.... unless they make "areas" which load whenever you enter them, and that would suck

Without multiplayer, they have no where to go. They made a good game with Morrowind, but with multiplayer co-op and solid modding tools, they would have made it the best RPG ever. I don't see how they could top the single player experience of Morrowind with another game of the same type. As far as free-form and non-linear RPG games go, Morrowind is pretty much the zenith of the genre.

Oh yeah!
Screw multiplayer.
Morrowind is the ultimate bug around and explore game, and with physics it will be just divine!
Can't wait.

Favorite game development company and franchise of all time...Todd and that old Paranoia guy rule!

Anyhow, I will personally bomb the offices if they release on console first or console-only, so that will obviously not take place.

Also, multiplayer is ridiculous for RPGs...name ONE multiplayer RPG that worked and was fun for longer than a day or two...?  All are Everquest clones that incorporate no story and a leveling treadmill...Bethesda would never stand for this.  The Baldur's Gate-type games are another story, but were a pain to play, and NWN-type games are too restrictive in terms of their 'modules'...Bethesda creates entire WORLDS, and if you grab the appropriate plugins (the good ones that add extra landmasses filled with GOOD towns, NPCs, Quests, Guilds, etc.) for Morrowind, the game is fucking GIGANTIC...I'm still playing it after 3+ years...that is a game worth $50, IMHO, and almost no other companies (save the BG/NWN people) make games worth this amount of cash.

They need to concentrate on making a game like Morrowind, except incorporating a next-gen engine and making all the NPC's unique...a LOT of precise scripting in terms of NPC situational behavior, not story--which will be open-ended, of course--would be welcome, as well as more meaningful ranks and guild interactions.  I agree that there should be a more Daggerfall-like feel to the next one, as I feel overall (nostalgically) that this was the best game for its time, anyway.  Sigh...we will not see this game until 2007, though, mark my words...still, any other company rumours I would simply dismiss with a 'meh'; this rumour has my full attention from day 1...
