Wierd 60/50 hertz problem!
« on: February 24, 2004, 04:32:29 PM »
well, I've got a DC, and like many of you no doubt, got a few downloaded games.

many of them are nstc and therefore play at a default of 60hz.

I live in the UK and as standard TV's are 50hz (PAL).

My new widescreen does support NTSC / 60hz playback, I know this for sure as my gamecube (pluged in through the colour plug things) plays it fine!

Anyway, when I play a 60hz DC game on my new TV, the picture is all f3cked and wavey.

I've got no idea why this is happening.  is it possible that the coaxial part of the TV doesn't support 60hz, but the coloured part, and scart lead do?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Josh. Out.

a PAL Dreamcast is playing all NTSC titels in PAL60 (like the PAL Gamecube) and some NTSC titels only forced to 50hz

checkt if your TV setup allows to change between PAL/NTSC manually

well, my tv doesn't let me do it manually, it just sorta does it automatically when I play a 60hz Gamecube game / Region 1 dvd.

Any way I can get around this with my Dreamcast?

Thanks for your help!

Hmm I would say either that or maybe your TV doesn't support PAL60, only PAL and NTSC.

Dude, I know what is going on. Your Telly is expecting a 'sync on composite" signal to come from the crappy Dreamcast Scart lead, but although the lead carrys RGB and audio signals etc, it DOES NOT carry a composite signal with all the picture on  one pin for your new TV to synchronise on. I had the same problem when I plugged it into my projector. The only wasy I got around it was to use a Scart switcher box like the "Quatro" which seemed to solve the problem.

good luck. (It's worth trying to solve, by the way, as the RGB picture beats the S-VHS version hands down).
